Bowling meet for primary and secondary students

YOUTH and Sports Minister Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek will officiate the Milo-Merdeka Unity bowling championships at the Sunway Megalanes on Aug 15.

The championships, organised by the Petaling District Tenpin Bowling Association (PDTBA) with support from SportsUnite Sports Club and Milo, is for primary and secondary school students.

PDTBA president Loh Seng Kok said the sports minister had agreed to be part of the championships.

“We are pleased to have the minister at the opening ceremony. The championships will also be an ideal opportunity for the students to display their bowling skills. In the spirit of Merdeka, we have made it compulsory for each team to have students from different races,’’ said Loh.

The organisers are expecting 48 teams — 24 each from primary and secondary schools — and each team will have four players.

Loh said the championships would also serve as a platform to identify players for the PDTBA junior development programme.

“We are in the midst of drawing up a long-term training programme for juniors.

“This championships will provide us the opportunity to select players. More importantly, we want the students to have a good time and also make new friends,’’ said Loh.

Nestle Products sports marketing manager Ng Ping Loong said the PDTBA were committed towards the promotion and development of bowling at grassroots.

“We have a good relationship with the PDTBA. They have been sincere and we will assist them in every way. We also share their vision and we hope more youngsters will be part of this programme,’’ said Ng.

The entry fee per team is RM60. For registration, contact 012-3681517 or 019-2142914.
