Petaling bowl to glory

PETALING became the overall champions in the Sukses bowling championships at the Ole Ole Bowling Centre in Shah Alam recently.

In the three-day event, Petaling won three gold medals, four silver and two bronze medals. The gold medals came from S. Selvanivashini in the women singles; Nadhirah Abdul Rahman and Nurain Fatin Abdul Rasid (women doubles) and Selvanivashini, Nadhirah, Nurain and Sharifah Marissa (women’s four).

Petaling District Tenpin Bowling Asso-ciation (PDTBA) president Loh Seng Kok said they had reasons to be proud as their representatives had given their best.

“The officials and coaches also played a role in the team’s success. They had initiated a roll off as well as a series of training sessions to get the bowlers well prepared for the Sukses,’’ said Loh.

Full support: Loh (in white and red t-shirt) with players, officials and parents.

After the third week of events, Petaling continued to dominate the medal tally with 31 gold, 21 silver and 19 bronze medals.

Petaling have a 13-gold medal advantage from second placed Hulu Langat, who have 18 gold, 19 silver and 27 bronze medals. In third spot are Sepang with 15 gold, seven silver and 14 bronze medals.

This weekend, nine sports — women’s hockey, athletics, silambam, boxing, aquatics, squash, tennis and gymnastics - will be held. The football final will precede the closing ceremony at the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) sports complex on Sunday.

Meanwhile kabaddi has been endorsed as a medal sport in the Sukses. Kuala Langat, who defeated Petaling 33-23, won the gold medal while Klang settled for the bronze following a 32-11 win over Hulu Selangor.

The Kabaddi Association of Selangor (KAS) president T. Mohan said they appreciated the Selangor State Sports Council (MSNS) ‘s in assisting them.

“The MSNS endorsement will certainly spur our affiliates to be more active in the promotion and development of kabaddi in Selangor,’’ said Mohan.
